Michael Hawkins

certified by the prestigious National College for DUI Defense--Mike
Hawkins and Bob Chestney are two of them. Admitted to the Georgia
Bar in 1992. Member of the State Bar of Georgia, the National Association
of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National College for DUI Defense,
the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Georgia
Defense of Drinking Drivers group.
EXPERIENCE
Prior to devoting his practice to defending driving under the influence
cases, Mr. Hawkins served as a DUI prosecutor for nearly five years
in the metropolitan Atlanta area. He has served as lead counsel
on more than 150 cases at trial. He was appointed to the Prosecuting
Attorney's Council Faculty in 1995 and has taught seminars for both
prosecutors and defense lawyers. His practice is limited to representing
and protecting the rights of those accused of alcohol and drug related
offenses. Mr. Hawkins attributes much of his success in defending
DUI cases to his experience as a DUI prosecutor and his commitment
to outpreparing the prosecution.
EDUCATION
University of Alabama (B.A., 1989); Emory University School of Law
(J.D., 1992). Successfully completed the National College for DUI
Defense, Summer Curriculum at Harvard Law School (July 1997), Board
Certified in DUI Defense by the National College for DUI Defense
(February 2001).
SEMINARS
Mr. Hawkins has been a frequent lecturer on DUI defense in the State
of Georgia. He has lectured at DUI seminars for the Institute for
Continuing Legal Education and has been a guest instructor at the
Georgia Trial Skills Clinic. For the last four years, Mr. Hawkins
has served as the Chairperson for the ICLE Handling Administrative
Driver's License Suspensions and Revocations Seminar.
